Herbzer Sports Academy nurture young talent
Groblersdal – In continuation with the development of sports in Sekhukhune Villages, Herbzer Sports Academy and Skills Development is back in action post Covid-19.
The academy is a Non-Profit Organization (NPO), founded a few years ago by a local businessman, Herbert Radingwana, catering different sporting codes which include, football and netball.
The NPO is based and uplifting communities in Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality (EMLM) Villages such as Motetema, Tafelkop, Sterkfontein, Luckau and Ramogwerane.
The academy is known by hosting sporting events at various villages such as Back to School initiatives where they donate school uniform to underprivileged pupils.
They continue to host football and netball tournament events such as Sports Against Drugs, which is completed as a way to save young people from immoral behaviour. The academy also host football masters tournaments aiming to promote a healthy lifestyle to adults and senior citizens.
During the tournaments, Herbzer Sports and Skills Development donate cash prizes, football kits, netball kits, trophies and medals to encourage participants.
To boost the initiative, JQ Spares in Groblersdal has donate soccer kits to Herbzer Sports and Skills Development, with an aim to give back to the community.
Radingwana said he established the academy to make a difference in his community.
“There is a huge progress since I established the academy. I also recently added with women’s football to enhance the initiative and make it accommodate as many young people as I can,” he said.
To promote young talented soccer stars, Radingwana said they recently sent their players to trials conducted by Sekhukhune United FC in Burgersfort.
“Unfortunately the players were not given enough time to be spotted and recognised by the scouts. Our next plan is to host friendly games with professional football teams to allow enough times for players to unleash their talent on a bigger platform,” he said.
Radingwana said the academy will be hosting a Youth in Sport Football Tournament just after schools reopen for winter holidays.
“Participating schools will include Ikhutseng, Bafaladi, Ndendeka and Moganetswa. Prizes will be up for grabs and scouts from professional teams in Limpopo including Sekhukhune United, Marumo Gallants and Polokwane City will be invited to come and spot talented players,” he said.
