Limpopo makes a great mark at Africa Mining Indaba

POLOKWANE
Limpopo has made a remarkable presence at the 2022 Africa Mining Indaba which was held in the Western Cape recently.
Premier Stanley Mathabatha, led a strong delegation comprising Member of the Executive Council (MEC) responsible for Limpopo Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET), Thabo Mokone, Chairpersons and Chief Executive Officers of various boards under LEDET at the four-day Indaba held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
“We used the Mining Indaba platform as an opportunity to attract the investment related to mineral beneficiation in the Special Economic Zones (SEZs), that is, platform group metal processing in Fetakgomo-Tubatse (Steelpoort) and metallurgical and energy cluster in Musina-Makhado. We had a whole provincial stand here at the Indaba to showcase investment opportunities,” said Premier Mathabatha.
The Indaba, which was under theme “Evolution of African Mining”, is the largest mining investment event in Africa that brings together several Heads of State, Ministers, senior government representatives, mining companies, mid and junior miners, investors, professional services as well as mining equipment and service providers.
“Mathabatha’s presence signalled the continued importance of mining to the provincial economy as a cornerstone, creator of value through investment, procurement, job creation and community investment.
Mining is dominant in the provincial economy as outlined in the Limpopo Development Plan – a blueprint for development,” said his spokesperson Willy Mosoma
Limpopo also hosted a networking session at the Life Grand Café (V & A Waterfront) wherein MEC Mokone met prodigious mining companies with sizeable investments in Limpopo such as Anglo-American Platinum, De Beers, Exxaro and Nkwe Mining Company amongst others.
“ We have listened to the Minister of Minerals and Energy, Gwede Mantashe, taking pride in the capacity of the Mining Sector in Limpopo as well as Governments’ commitment on working closely with Limpopo-based mines for the benefit of all stakeholders involved.
“We have various mines operating in Limpopo, we have the Musina-Makhado Special Economic Zone as well as the Fetakgomo Tubatse Special Economic Zone which will without a doubt industrialize our province, bring major development and become the core economic hubs within the SADC Region,” said Mokone at the networking session.
The overall message that came from the Limpopo Provincial Government was that it remains committed to servicing the investments and relationships developed within the sector by supporting the mines.
Parts of the provincial presence at this Indaba aimed to showcase Limpopo’s potential and attract new investors within the mining sector in Limpopo.
