Process to relocate offices reaches a key milestone

MAMONE

The long-awaited relocation of the Sekhukhune District Municipality’s offices is no longer “over a distant horizon”.
The MEC for public works, roads and infrastructure, Namane Masemola, the MEC for the treasury, Seaparo Sekwati, and the MEC for cooperative governance, human settlements and traditional affairs, Basikopo Makamu, as appointed by Premier Chupu Mathabatha, received the community resolution for the allocation of land in the Pedi Mamone Traditional jurisdiction, next to Jane Furse in the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality on Monday.
The need for land allocation has been one of the major hurdles in the way for the Limpopo government to proceed with the planned relocation of the offices. A 53-hectare land portion will be demarcated in order for the construction of the envisaged government complex to begin.
“This is where the people of Sekhukhune will receive services in future, without having to travel to Lebowakgomo in the nearby Capricorn District,” said Masemola.
He said the Limpopo government appreciates the entire community of Bapedi ba Mamone for making such an important decision, which will enable government to move with pace and redress this decades-long matter.
