Education suffers after school was burnt

SEKHUKHUNE

Scores of learners have been left stranded after their school Ramatsagalala Secondary School in Kgobokwane burned down for the second time in three weeks.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage,  however suspected arson cannot be ruled out due to the nature and timing of the incident.

The school had previously experienced a fire three weeks ago, which damaged the principal’s office.

The February 27 fire, has further damaged two classrooms and the administration block, including important school equipment and learning materials.

Meanwhile the Mayor of Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality, Cllr David Tladi, has voiced serious concern and disappointment following the recent  fire at the school.

“These recurring incidents are a serious setback to education in the community and affect learners, educators, and parents.”

Tladi emphasized that schools are centres of learning, safety, and hope, and any destruction of educational infrastructure is unacceptable.

“The municipality strongly condemns any act that undermines the future of our children.”

Emergency services responded promptly, and the fire was  contained. No injuries were reported.

The matter has been reported to the Limpopo SAPS, and the police have been requested to conduct a full investigation into the cause of the fire.
