Fetakgomo Tubatse scoops five awards at Limpopo Salga awards

Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) has scooped five awards from the South African Local Government Association (Salga) Limpopo in recognition of its outstanding financial performance and governance excellence for the 2024/25 financial year. The awards were held at the Ranch Resort in Polokwane on February 26.
The awards were received by the FTLM mayor Cllr Eddie Maila, who was accompanied by the Speaker of council, Cllr Makgalema Shoba; the Chief Whip of Council, Cllr Dorah Mpheti; and the MMC for Developmental Planning, Cllr Owen Mashego.
The Municipality was honoured for:
* Achieving 100% spending of the 2024/25 Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) allocation
* Achieving 100% spending of the additional 2024/25 MIG allocation
* Successful in-house preparation of the 2024/25 Annual Financial Statements
*Successful in-house review of the 2024/25 Annual Financial Statements
*Sustaining an Unqualified Audit Opinion
The municipality said the awards, conferred affirm the municipality’s commitment to sound financial management, strengthened internal controls, and responsible utilisation of public resources.
“Achieving full expenditure of both the primary and additional Municipal Infrastructure Grant allocations demonstrates disciplined planning, effective project implementation, and accelerated delivery of critical infrastructure projects benefiting communities across all wards.
Equally significant is the recognition for both the in-house preparation and review of the Annual Financial Statements, which reflects growing institutional capacity and technical expertise within the administration. The attainment of an Unqualified Audit Opinion further signals compliance with financial reporting standards and strengthened governance systems,” said the FTLM in a statement.
Mayor Maila welcomed the recognition and commended the collective efforts of political leadership and the administration.
“These awards confirm that strong financial governance is not accidental — it is the result of planning, accountability and teamwork. An unqualified audit opinion, combined with full infrastructure grant spending, demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that public resources are managed responsibly and translate into tangible development for our communities,” said Maila.
He said the FTLM remains committed to clean governance, financial prudence, and sustainable development.
