Sekhukhune District honours outstanding police officers
MOGORWANE – Sekhukhune District Police Commissioner, Major General Kebaakae Junior Lehabe-Metsi, has on Friday 30 January 2026, honoured the district’s dedicated South African Police Service (SAPS) members during the Police Day Excellence Celebration, held at Boeketlong Lodge in Mogorwane Village outside Jane Furse.
The event was a celebration of the outstanding work being done by SAPS members in the Sekhukhune District, and a reminder of the importance of their role in protecting and serving the community.
The awarding ceremony was attended by key stakeholders and senior SAPS leadership, including MMC for Community Safety in Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM), Cllr Orginia Mafefe, traditional leadership representatives, and other dignitaries.
During the event, Major General Lehabe-Metsi commended the police members for their resilience, dedication, and sacrifices, emphasizing that policing remains a calling that demands courage, discipline, and integrity.
“Today we honour the men and women who consistently go beyond the call of duty to protect our communities. Your dedication and sacrifices do not go unnoticed,” she said.
The awards were presented across various categories, acknowledging excellence in operational performance, administration, leadership, teamwork, and community service.
Administrative Clerk Mokoena from Hlogotlou and Sergeant Ramotjatsi were both named Administrative Employee of the Year.
Constable Makua from Burgersfort SAPS walked away with VISPOL and Operations Employee of the Year Award, while Sergeant Mashabela from Mecklenburg SAPS was honoured as VISPOL Member of the Year.
Sergeant Thobakgale from SAPS District Office took home the Operations Employee of the Year Award, and Constable F Sefoka was named Marshalling Officer of the Year.
Sergeant Siwela from the District Office won the Drill Squad Coordinator of the Year Award.
The Sekhukhune District Tracking Team, led by Sergeant Phago, received the Operational Team of the Year award, including the prestigious Catch of the Year accolade, for exceptional operational achievements.
In the higher levels, Colonel Manasoe from Nebo SAPS was named VISPOL and Operations Team of the Year, while Lieutenant Colonel Mallela from Vala Umgodi-District won the Task Team of the Year Award.
Captain Papudi from Nebo/Jane Furse SAPS received the Tracking Team Excellence Award, and Captain Nkuna from Ohrigstad SAPS was named Station Commander of the Year.
Captain Lugisani from the District SAPS was awarded Administrative Employee of the Year accolade.
In her closing remarks, Deputy Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Limpopo, Major General Frengy Sebola, congratulated the awards recipients and encouraged all police members to continue upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and teamwork, while prioritizing their wellbeing and sustaining public trust and confidence in the SAPS.
