Community’s tireless efforts pay-off, missing children found safe
SEHLAKWANE – A massive sigh of relief has been breathed by the community of Sehlakwane Village in Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality (EMLM) Ward 15 after three missing boys, aged 9 to 10, were found alive and safe in a mountain cave in in the village.
The boys were reported missing on Monday 21 July 2025 after it was alleged that they were in the company of a 19-year-old young man.
The community’s tireless efforts, in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Sekhukhune District firefighters, played a significant role in locating the missing boys.
The Mayor of EMLM, Cllr David Tladi, has extended his heartfelt gratitude to the community members for their role in the successful rescue.
“We are happy that the boys have been found safe and sound, and we appreciate the community’s support and cooperation with the authorities,” said Tladi.
“We understand that the community’s frustration and anger are natural, but we urge everyone to allow SAPS the necessary space to conduct their investigation,” he added.
The Mayor also commended the SAPS for their diligent work in tracing the missing children and ensuring their safe return.
The boys were found dehydrated but alive, and have been taken to the hospital for medical attention. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding their disappearance.
“We appreciate the community’s support and cooperation with the authorities. We urge everyone to allow the SAPS the necessary space to conduct their investigation,” Tladi said.
The Mayor urges parents and guardians to remain vigilant about their children’s whereabouts and safety, especially during these times.
“We must always prioritize the safety and well-being of our children,” he said.
Tladi, together with the Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM), Cllr Minah Bahula, are set to visit the family to offer their support and assistance.
