74 new constables deployed to tackle festive crimes
The Limpopo SAPS has deployed 74 newly appointed police constables to various districts to bolster crime prevention efforts during this festive season. The new officers have hit the ground running effective from 17 December 2024, ensuring the residents of Limpopo feel safe. Deputy provincial commissioner , Major General Jan Scheepers advised the constables to make correct choices for their future, prioritizing their safety and wearing bulletproof vests at all times. Meanwhile, the Limpopo commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed and addressed the constables, emphasizing the importance of their role in ensuring the safety and security of Limpopo residents. The newly appointed members are expected to be proactive in preventing and combating crime, particularly during this holiday season and beyond. They will also be responsible for protecting residents’s properties while they are on holidays as well as government infrastructure. “Do not be generous to the criminals; they are very dangerous, make sure you arrest them for the right reasons. Ensure that you are operationally ready at all times and squeeze the space for criminals,” said Hadebe. This deployment is part of the SAPS’s efforts to combat crime and maintain public safety during this festive season. While on a patrol around Polokwane CBD, the newly appointed constables apprehended five suspects, four males and one female, between the ages of 27 and 33, for possession of dagga and dangerous weapons. The suspects were expected to appear before Polokwane Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 18 December 2024. “We will continue intensifying our festive season operations through decisive police action as noted with the recent arrests of suspects in Polokwane CBD. These arrests will send a strong warning that criminals will be dealt with decisively in the province,” added Hadebe.
