Marble Hall
The Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality council has on Tuesday 24 October conducted a Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) Fourth Quarter Public Hearing performance for 2022/2023 financial year, held at Municipal Town Hall in Marble Hall.
According to the local municipality, the purpose of the public hearing was to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
“This is in line with the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa Section 160(7) provides that ‘the municipal council must conduct its business in an open manner, and may close its sitting or those of its committees, only when it is reasonable to do so having regard to the nature of the business being transacted’, said EPMLM Spokesperson Percy Moagi.
During the public hearing, the MAC committee members posed for questions while leaded by Executive Committee (EXCO) member, Cllr Frederick Sedibane, who was representing the mayor. Sedibane took the platform to respond to the public hearing questions.
The MPAC committee will after the public hearing session, table a report to council for adoption.
EPMLM MPAC Chairperson, Cllr Thabiso Mabaso, informed that their role is to exercise oversight over the executive functionaries of the council and to ensure good governance in the municipality.
“We want to assure the public that this committee will ensure that the public funds are used for the intended purpose,” he said.
The hearing was also attended by EPMLM Municipal Manager Mogobadi Moropa, senior managers, EXCO members from different portfolios, councillors and members of the public.
