RAL celebrates unwavering contribution of women in roads construction

In line with this year’s theme: “Accelerating Socio-Economic Opportunities for Women’s Empowerment”, Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) is one of government institutions committed and hard at work to ensure that women are capacitated for critical sectors of the economy such as technology, construction, mining, transport and logistics.

To celebrate unwavering women who made a contribution in the agency by delivering some of impeccable roads projects in the province, the agency is recognizing Kamogelo Mogadima, from Sekhukhune District Municipality, who broke stereotypes about rural women and their capacity to be involved in road construction projects.

Kamogelo’s inspiring journey began when she seized the opportunity provided by the SMME policy, which promotes the use of locally owned SMMEs as sub-contractors in government projects.

Her company, Kgee’s Trading, was sub-contracted to build v-drains as part of the upgrading of Road D4370 from Tompi Seleka to Mogaladi in Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM), within the Sekhukhune District Municipality.

It was through Kamogelo’s determination, hard work and the guidance of mentors that she managed to deliver quality work at the end, which also saw her company progressing from Grade one to five on CIDB grading.

Having defied the odds to accomplish her goals, Mogadima has set herself up for bigger and better projects. Her journey is a testament to the fact that when women are given opportunities and support, they can excel and contribute significantly to the development of communities.

Meanwhile RAL said progress is satisfactory at various projects conducted in eleven municipalities across Limpopo Province.

The initiative started with a partnership journey that emanated from the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the municipalities including signatories from Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality, Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality, Makhado Local Municipality, Polokwane Municipality, Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality, Collins Chabane Local Municipality, Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality, Bela Bela Local Municipality, Musina Local Municipality, Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality and Thabazimbi Local Municipality.

RAL Spokesperson Luyanda Sithole, said the intervention forms part of the District Development Model that calls on all spheres of government to work together for meaningful and impactful service delivery initiatives.

“Roads Agency Limpopo’s collaboration with municipalities inspires service delivery confidence in Limpopo,” she said.
