St Mark’s leaner excel in sport



A fourteen years old girl, Maripane Potego, who is doing Grade 7 at St Mark’s primary school, has made it to the provincial championship of female soccer.

In Sekhukhune district championship alone, four female players were successfully selected to be part of 17 players which Provincial championship to represent the province on the upcoming championships games.

In the book of history, the school has never produced such learner, but Potego has rewrote such history.

A language educator, Victor Mamphopha, said the school is overwhelmed to produce that kind of a determine footballer star.

Victor said the school is on preparations to recognise good work done by Potego.

“The school is very proud and on Thursday we have a farewell and we will also recognise her. We will hand over two trophies, gold medal and the certificate,” said Victor.

He said the principal is also happy to have such learner in her 16 years’ experience as a principal.

“It is not an easy journey at all. The journey is too long and we are delighted that she made it to the province,” said Victor.

He said Potego have also assistant coach, Kennedy Mogoba, who motivates and encourage her in daily basis.

“Potego excelled from school level to the circuit from circuit to the cluster until she reach  Sekhukhune district championship which was hosted on October 15 at Hlogo Tlou stadium where she was advanced to the province,” Victor explained the levels Potego went through.

A proud Grade 6 class teacher said provincial ladies football championship was held at Capricorn high school were four Sekhukhune born women were selected.

Victor said Potego’s parents were over the moon to find out that their child has made it to the province.

Speaking of challenges Victor, said it was hard for him to take learners to the ground during sports activities as principal was against it at some stage.

“I have to convince the principal that sports is one the best activities the learners have to take part in it,” he said.
