Business owner together with suspects arrested after fake highjacking

JANE FURSE – A truck driver and crew were recently arrested after reporting a false hijacking and robbery of cargo they were transporting.

Subsequent to their arrest, a foreign national warehouse owner was also nabbed for possession of the stolen property recovered in Jane Furse.

According to police, the Provincial Organised Crime and National Crime Intelligence units, assisted by the local Criminal Local Centre conducted a snap operation following a case of truck hijacking reported at the Jane Furse police station.

Police revealed that when opening a case, the truck driver and his crew claimed that their truck was hijacked and cargo comprising building and fencing materials they were transporting from Benoni, Gauteng Province to Steelpoort outside Burgersfort was stolen.

Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, explained that on Tuesday, 21 March 2023, members of that team operationalised the information received which led them to a warehouse in Jane Furse owned by a foreign national where the stolen materials were recovered.

Mojapelo added that was after it was established that the suspects sold the materials to a warehouse owned by a foreign national businessman and that the owner was arrested on the spot with the two other suspects being arrested at separate locations.

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe congratulated the team for a well coordinated operation that led to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the stolen properties.

General Hadebe said that the success was a manifestation of the importance of coordination that has to take place among various environments involved in fighting crime.

The three suspects, Shadrack Thobejane (37), Calvin Muodzo (43) and Shah Jamal Mohammad (29) were expected to reappear before the Nebo Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 28 March 2023 after they were remanded in custody for further police investigations.
