Taxi driver fatally shot in foiled hijacking

The police in Jane Furse are investigating a case of murder, following the brutal murder of a 19-year-old taxi driver, who was fatally shot at a tavern in Dicheoung, Ga-Moretsela outside Jane Furse. The incident occurred on Saturday 3 September at about 23:00.
Lieutenant Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said reports indicate that four victims were in a Toyota Quantum minibus taxi at a tavern in Ga-Moretsele when two unknown men, suddenly entered into the vehicle and shot the driver.
“After fatally shooting the driver, the unknown suspects drove away with the victim and a female passenger who tried to escape by jumping out of the speeding vehicle, the passenger then fell and died afterwards”. She said.
Ledwaba said another male passenger was stabbed multiple times with a knife when trying to intervene in the hijacking.
“The deceased taxi driver was identified as Sifiso Mahlangu from Sterkfontein Village outside Groblersdal. The deceased woman who jumped out of the moving vehicle was identified as Xolile Mahlangu. The male victim who was stabbed with a knife was rushed to a local hospital for medical attention. The 31-year-old male who was also a passenger in the taxi was not harmed,” he said.
Ledwaba said cases of murder, assault and hijacking are under investigation at the Jane Furse Police Station.
“No one has been arrested at the stage and a man hunt was launched for the suspects, an investigation is ongoing,” he said.
