Escalating crime sends residents marching

JANE FURSE – The residents of Mamone Village within the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality recently marched to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Jane Furse to register their concerns over the escalating crime in the area.

The angry residents accused SAPS Jane Furse of disservice as they claimed crime in their area was on the increase despite police presence.

They alleged that a fellow female resident who had just alighted a taxi from Pretoria was recently murdered in cold blood in the area when she was about to board a taxi which was supposed to ferry her into Mamone Village.

It is alleged that the deceased was engaged in an unpleasant exchange of words with the perpetrator who produced a firearm and shot the deceased several times. The residents were angry that there has not been an arrest following the incident.

They approached the local tribal authority office where they sought permission to march to SAPS Jane Furse to register their concerns.

Insiders informed that the family of the deceased woman has since denied that she was shot by her partner as it was alleged.

Insiders further said that the family was still in the dark as to who the perpetrator was, and appealed to members of the community to assist police with information that can lead to the arrest of the culprit.

The residents further accuse taxi operators in the area of allegedly not willing to reveal who the person behind the murder was.
