DOP laid charges against IEC
Lebowakgomo
The Defender of the People (DOP) has laid charges against the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) for allegedly allowing unmarked ballot boxers from various voting districts and stations under Lepelle Nkumpi Municipality (LNM) to be transported to Lebowakgomo Civic Centre without being escorted by SAPS.
According to the party president, Ruphos Mphahalele, many of these ballot boxes were brought to the centre without the VD’s numbers, election type and dates.
Mphahlele said the incident took place during special vote on 30th of October and the matter was raised with the IEC.
He however said surprisingly, the IEC claims not to know the person who brought the boxes to the civic centre.
“As the party, we take these irregularities and shenanigans very serious as we believe that it might tarnish the credibility as well as the outcomes of the elections,” said DOP president.
