DA Polokwane calls for fair and transparent EPWP jobs

POLOKWANE – The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Polokwane has announced that it will petition for a fair and transparent Extended Public Works Programme jobs.

Tiny Ramathabatha Chidi, DA Councillor Councillor in the Polokwane Local Municipality claimed that the recent independent investigation by Bowman Gillifillan in Polokwane Municipality, highlighted acts of verified nepotism with respect to the appointment of EPWP workers.

Chidi lambasted that as a result, the DA will launch a petition to demand fair and transparent processes in the appointment of EPWP workers, equal opportunities to apply to all, not only the selected few.

“Currently, only the well-connected cadres are appointed by the municipality. The petition will be distributed across all municipal wards and will demand the establishment of a policy that would guide and regulate the appointment of the workers,” indicated Chidi.

Chidi added that they demand the implementation of a system would effectively record names into a database to prevent any manipulation.

“There is also a need for oversight mechanisms to prevent political interference, eradicate nepotism and cadre deployment. The DA will continue to hold those in power accountable and make sure decision- making regarding jobs are transparent and fair
