Several service delivery issues deliberated on in Makhuduthamaga
JANE FURSE – Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality Council has during its ordinary sitting, held on Tuesday, 01 August, in terms of section 29(1) of Local Government’s Municipal Systems Act No 117 of 1998, agreed to resolve on the a number of service delivery issues.
The local municipality approved the fourth quarter performance report and the annual performance report, which indicated 98.5% achievement of target set for the quarter with only 2 targets slightly missed.
The council is largely happy with the work done by the departments’ collective. All the departments in the exception of budget and treasury office and corporate services achieved 100% of their targets for the year. Budget and Treasury achieved 93% while corporate services achieved 95% of the set targets. Accordingly, this can only mean that the residents’ lives are being empowered and changing for the better.
During the 2022/ 2023, The Municipality was allocated just over R94m to implement the conditional Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG). By the end of June, which concludes the 2022/2023 financial year, the Municipality was able to process and implement 8 Infrastructural projects as multi-year, to improve the quality of life of its residents.
The council also noted two more projects that are on design stage, two underway on construction phase with four completed, which will bring a sigh of relief to communities across in the length and breadth of the Municipality.
Last month, during the oversight visit on various projects in the municipality, MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Nkakareng Rokgoale praised for its rollout of developmental infrastructure.
The municipality has won many awards on its implementation of 100% MIG spending consecutively over the years.
The council has also wholly received and hailed an EPWP fourth quarter report whose sole intention is to provide economic relief and working opportunities to the needy in the municipality.
Through this intervention, the municipality was able to create 461 opportunities in the infrastructure sector, 102 in the social sector as well as 82 in the environment and cultural sectors.
During the municipal strategic planning meeting earlier this year, Ronald Moganedi developed plans to bolster the traffic law enforcement to not only improve and enforce rules on the road by ensuring both motorists and pedestrians adhere to safety, but to also come up with plans to penalise transgressors.
The municipality has through this unit collected over R500k in the financial year that ended in June. The council hails this development as it will boost the coffers of the public purse and result in quality services
The council has also adopted the MPAC fourth quarter report as well as its annual work program. Legislated under Sec 32 of MFMA, the committee plays a watchdog and oversight role over council and ensures the effectiveness on the use of Municipal resources.
Subsequently, the lapsing of the Audit Committee term of office, the council has moved swiftly to appoint a five-member panel. The Lapsing of contracts of employment of some Senior Managers also took centre stage.
The five-year fixed term employment contract of Senior Manager for Economic Development and Planning is coming to an end soon.
The council agreed to declare a vacancy and empower administration to begin with the development of a recruitment plan process and advertise the position within 14 working days.
