Wheelchairs for the needy

PHASHA SELATOLE – In line with the Thuma Mina call by President Cyril Ramaphosa to assist those in need, Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) recently donated wheelchairs to needy residents of Phasha Selatole Village near Atok.

The recipients of the wheelchairs, who were identified through the help of the community of Pasha Selatole, comprised two females and a male aged between 40 and 60 years-old.

The beneficiaries, overwhelmed with joy, expressed their gratitude to the district municipality for providing them the much needed mobility aids saying they would move around without bothering any one anymore.

Isaac Mahlakwane, SDM Mayoral Spokesperson, said the donation to the three beneficiaries in Phasha Selatole Village was Executive Mayor Stanley Ramaila’s programme which started a few years ago to help those in need.

Mahlakwane said the programme, made possible through the municipality’s close ties with Good Samaritans, has since its inception managed to deliver six newly built and fully furnished houses in various parts of the district.

“In response to the Thuma Mina call to action by President Cyril Ramaphosa to assist those in need, Members of the Mayoral Committee Jan Mohlala and Baatseba Leshaba, representing Sekhukhune Executive Mayor, Stanley Ramaila, handed over three wheelchairs in Phasha Selatole next to Atok,” conformed Mahlakwane.

Mahlakwane said the wheelchairs would assist in enhancing the much needed mobility and independence for the beneficiaries.

He added that the programme continued and it was looking at handing over another newly built and fully furnished house for a destitute family in Zaaiplaas, Hlogotlou area outside Groblersdal within the Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality.
