ANC Sekhukhune region meets for the first time following conference

SEKHUKHUNE – Following the its successful 8th regional conference held at the Groblersdal Rugby Stadium on 16 December 2021, the African National Congress (ANC) Sekhukhune Region held its first meeting which was convened in line with clause 21.01.1 of the party’s constitution.

The clause directs the REC to meet as soon as possible after the conference to primarily elect the Regional Working Committee (RWC).

The REC convened on 29 December afternoon through zoom virtual platform and deliberated on various political matters drawn from the political overview from the regional chairperson.

In a statement released on 30 December, the party said the meeting reflected on the centrality of unity and the renewal across the ranks and file of the organization despite democratic processes undertaken in meetings and political events such as conferences.

The statement continued that the meeting discouraged some “foreign tendencies such as triumphalism, purging, infightings of positions, and gate-keeping by those empowered by the membership of the organization because those continued to erode the electoral support of the ANC. The REC called upon all the elected and unelected cadres of the movement to close ranks and place their energies and skills at the disposal of the organization at all times.

The statement further said that the ANC overemphasized its commitment to renewal both organizationally and politically, unify and ensure that it continued to pursue the mandate of serving the people of Sekhukhune region diligently and capably without any failure.

“It is our firm view that and believe that the ANC renewal process cannot just be reduced to moralistic issue only, but be based on programme across the structures of the movement,” read the statement.

The REC reaffirmed that its support for the national leadership collective elected at the 54th national conference in 2017 as led by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

On local government elections, the REC resolved to strengthen its political oversight in municipalities by convening regional Lekgotla as soon as possible to reflect on the service delivery challenges confronting communities of the royal region.

Julia Mathebe, Minah Bahula, Tala Mathope, Given Moimana, Eddie Maila, David Tladi, Dieketseng Mashego, Choris Phokane, Bella Kupa, Reneilwe Pholwane and Mosedi Thamaga were elected as members constituting the Regional Working Committee.
