More than 1000 suspects behind bars

The Limpopo SAPS are gradually winning the battle against crime. The men and women in blue have arrested 1316 suspects aged between 23 and 50 during ongoing joint operations activated to fight criminal activities across the province.

A total of 231 suspects, were arrested for contravention of the illegal immigration Act.

The recent arrests were affected between October 17 – October 26 and the suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, robberies, rape, sexual assault, theft of motor vehicle, stock theft, possession and dealing in drugs to possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“On Monday, members of the Highway Patrol Team received a complaint about a truck delivering groceries at Jane Furse which was hijacked on the R33 road. They swiftly responded and with assistance of the Tracker company, the truck was traced to a store at Botlopunya village. Police searched the premises and recovered all the stolen groceries worth over R200 000.The owner of the shop aged 36, the driver of the truck (33) and the other suspect (27) were all arrested,” revealed Limpopo SAPS spokesman Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

Meanwhile, the Highway Patrol Team also arrested a 41-year-old suspect at Machakaneng village in the Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) after he was caught driving a suspected stolen motor vehicle. The members were busy with their normal patrol duties when they noticed a speeding VW Golf 5. After the vehicle was stopped and thorough investigation conducted, it was discovered that it was reported stolen at Wierdabrug in the Gauteng province.

During the operations, SAPS recovered firearms, stolen vehicles, dangerous weapons, stolen properties such as electrical appliances, clothes, cellphones and groceries, liqour, illicit cigarettes, various drugs including cocaine, crystal meth and mandrax.
The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe has applauded the members for their endless efforts in fighting crime across the province and the continuous support of the community members.
Some of these suspects have started appearing before various magistrate’s courts across the province.
