A joint campaign to safeguard sports facilities during level 4 in response to the third wave of covid-19 infections

Sekhukhune

The Limpopo president of sports confederation, Malesela Pole said is worried about a disturbing trend that emerged during the first wave of covid-19 in early and mid 2020.

Malesela said many public facilities including schools and sport facilities were closed, and as a result rendered vulnerable to acts of theft and vandalism.

“As the controlling body for sports in the province we can’t afford to fold arms and wish away the situation or leave it as a policing matter. We have to actively engage communities particularly parents and players to understand the gravity and impact of vandalism on the future prospects of many athletes of our province,” said Malesela

He said each district sports confederation President must extend his message to communities through safest communication means possible such as radio station, social media platforms and routine visits to the sport facilities themselves

He added that sports activists must involve in routine visits to sport facilities, talk to local police station about importance of police visibility and active involvement of community policing forums in the campaign to safeguard sport facilities

“Involve the SALGA representative in every district executive committee in the campaign by communicating the benefits of working together to protect meagre investment in sport infrastructure made available by local government,” so said Malesela

He said: “Let’s not miss the opportunity to instil the spirit of jealously guarding our children’s future,”
