Health programs encourage youth to know their health statuses

The youth came together to initiate educating young girls in the nearest rural areas of Burgersfort about the importance of testing. Institute of Health Programs and Systems (IHPS) along with Motswadibe drop-in centre visited Ledingwe Village in Burgersfort on Thursday to alert them of their interventions to rural communities.

Samuel Mongala, a peer group trainer explained that their aim as IHPS is to intervene where information about health and education lacks. He said they focus on empowering young girls and help them deal with social issues along with assisting with psychological problems.

“We encourage young girls to go back to school and assist them to deal with many more issues they may be going through. We have noticed that many young girls end up without education because they do not have the support and confidence that they can archive,” said Samuel.

Samuel described IHPS as a program that plays a significant role in a girl child’s life. He said they offer free services in assisting anyone to apply for higher learning along with hosting events with active activities that include sports games and counselling.

Karabo Seimela who attended the event said the programs should visit their village at least twice a year. She highlighted that Ledingwe is high in teenage pregnancy and these programs might influence the teenagers to condomise and stay safe.

Furthermore, Puleng Tlala who is a peer group trainer at Motswadibe drop-in centre stated they are coming together with the Institute of Health Programs and Systems to form a collaboration that puts the health of a young person first. He explained that Motswadibe drop-in centre deals with young kids while IHPS is about girls from the age of 18-24.

“Whenever we host, we are accompanied by nurses because we want our youth to know their status. We ask people to join in as they will learn more about the use of PREP. IHPS provides them for free after one has tested,” He said.

These educational programs have safe places in Burgersfort, Apel, Atok and Mphanama where they assist youth with different issues.
