Queen Mother and Minister Motsoaledi lead elderly vaccination roll-out
GLEN COWIE – The Queen Mother and Regent of Bapedi Nation, Manyaku Thulare and Home Affairs Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi led the 60 years and above COVID-19 vaccination programme roll-out at the Glen Cowie Regional Hospital within Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality on Monday, 24 May 2021.
The hospital is among the added sites that will commence with the vaccination of persons who are 60 years and above.
Limpopo Department of Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, thanked Queen Mother Hlapogadi a Phaahle and Minister Motsoaledi for leading by example in participating in the vaccination against the novel COVID-19.
Ramathuba said the gesture by Queen Mother Hlapogadi a Phaahle and Minister Motsoaledi would encourage the citizens to participate in the vaccination and also quell the myths around taking the jabs.
She added that even those who were scared of vaccination would not be scared anymore when they see the leaders taking their jabs.
Queen Mother Hlapogadi a Phaahle encouraged the citizens to participate in the vaccination process to ensure that the fight against the novel coronavirus was intensified.
“When we are faced with an enemy we need to act in unison and fight it. Here we are faced with an enemy and vaccination is the way to fight it. So let us all get vaccinated. If there is anything wrong with vaccination, I am offering myself to see if that is true,” said the Queen Mother.
Minister Motsoaledi, Originally from Sekhukhune district, said their faith was now in the vaccination and that if it could be ensured that by next, everyone was vaccinated, the fight against COVID-19 would be won.
The former minister of health further encouraged people to come forward and vaccinate, and not take all the myths spread around vaccination.
“The vaccination will be in two folds, after today, you will be required to come back after 21 days to get the second jab to complete the process. We are starting with the elderly because the disease is more powerful in them,” said Motsoaledi.
Minah Bahula, Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality Mayor, expressed appreciation for the elderly person’s effort to wake up at dawn and brave the cold weather to ensure they arrive at the hospital to get vaccinated against novel COVID-19.
