UCDP embraces independent candidature in upcoming elections

ELIAS MOTSOALEDI – The United Christian Democratic Party (UCDP) in Limpopo has announced that it conducted a research study on voter apathy and found that the electorate has lost hope and trust in politicians and political parties in South Africa.

The UCDP moved that happened because government was under political parties swimming in corruption.

The party called on voters to however, shift their loyalty and trust to independent candidates as shown through Constitutional Court judgment recently, which ruled in favour of independent candidates.

Malose Ramashala, UCDP Limpopo Organiser and Elias Motsoaledi Chairperson, confirmed that his party therefore embraced independent candidates to its rank.

Ramashala said research also showed that independent candidates needed to perform their duties in councils and legislatures.

He said the UCDP currently opened up its electoral process to include all independent candidates and work with them under one umbrella.

“We call upon all leaders who want to stand as independents to come and contest under the UCDP banner to expedite change in our political landscape. We need each other, therefore, we ask all independent candidates to work with the UCDP,” said Ramashala.

The leader added that as a party, they were open and offered their support and used that for change in the country’s political leadership.

Ramashala said a new leadership style, talents and innovation from the community leaders were welcomed in the party.

The country is expected to hold local government elections which the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) envisages to in October 2021.
