After being able to release 4 albums in just few years, a traditional and kwaito singer celebrates his awards and achievements. Hosea Phuti Malatji from Taung Village in Burgersfort wish people could support local singers.
He won an award for best traditional song at Manyalo music awards last year. His passion for singing started in late 90s with “Botswana” guys in Pretoria. He was inspired by the love of culture and tradition he witnessed from those guys.
“Traditional music has a deep meaning. We teach our kids the roots of our ancestors. And not only does it educate but leaves guide messages to everyone. My famous album is Phuti ya Lebowa” he said.
He continues to say the challenges they meet as artists are unbelievable and heart breaking. They have to deal with their songs being stolen and CD copies sold on the streets without their permission and that affects their production.
“I have experienced a lot I cannot even mention on the paper. But regardless of those challenges, I still have a lot to celebrate. I chose Kwaito and Traditional songs because they are legendary, they do not lose style and quality. I want people to support local artists; it is not easy doing work from the bottom of your heart and get nothing in return. Some of us, this is our way of living,” He adds.
