FTLM mayor introduces contractor to electrify Praktiseer’s Mountain Square

PRAKTISEER

The Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality’s mayor Eddie Maila is optimistic that his municipality will win the service delivery battle.

Maila was speaking during the introduction of a contractor to electrify 1900 homes at Mountain Square in Praktiseer (Ward 30) on Mandela Day.

He was accompanied by Head of Infrastructure Development and Technical Services Cllr Halinda Mojalefa, Head of Budget and Treasury Cllr Queen Moeng, Head of Local Economic Development and Tourism Cllr Morashiya Mabelane, Deputy Head of LED&T Cllr Thabo Makofane , Deputy Head of Budget and Treasury Cllr Juliet Mabelane and Ward 30 councilor Sarah Magabe.

This project comes a fortnight after Maila introduced access road contracts at Ga Mokgotho and Praktiseer Shushumela communities. On July 3, he handed over two contractors to erect an 8 kilometre access road at Shushumela.

He continued to introduce another two contractors for a 6 kilometre access road at Ga-Mokgotho village, (Ward 16) on July 4. The Mountain Square electricity project will light up 1900 homes and is estimated to cost around R23 million and is scheduled to be completed by March 2026.

Introducing the project site manager, Kabelo Sebapu, Maila said the project steering committees will soon be appointed and the project to start as soon as possible.
He once again warned community members not to destabilise progress on municipal projects.

“Most of the unfinished projects are disrupted by community members who don’t want development and their interest is to enrich themselves. They don’t care about service delivery to the masses. Be vigilant, and don’t allow them opportunities to disrupt this electrification project. Ours is simple, to ensure people in the FTLM access proper services from the government. When coming to service delivery, we don’t compromise, Tsotsis disrupting projects will not stand a chance.”

He said the project will create employment and business opportunities for the community and all must all follow due process to benefit. The mayor indicated that the responsibility of the project steering committees is to monitor the project and ensure its smooth operation.
“They must stick to their responsibilities and desist from disturbing the work flow. “
Maila pleaded for the cooperation and support of the community to the contractor to implement the project until its completion. Mountain Square residents applauded the municipality for fulfilling its commitment to electrify the settlement and further committed to safeguard the project until its completion.
