Man finally sentenced for 2017 robbery

DENNILTON – The Groblersdal Regional Court sentenced 46 year-old Lesley Kau Ramphisa accused of robbery with aggravating circumstances to 12 years imprisonment on Thursday, 7 November.

Ramphisa’s sentencing emanates from an incident which occurred on 13 July 2017 in Thabakhubedu Village within the Dennilton policing area where the accused and his friend pointed a firearm at the driver of the vehicle they had hitchhiked from Middelburg, ordered him to stop and get to the back seat before they drove away with the victim.

The victim, who was in possession of a firearm, fired shots at the direction of the driver. The driver lost control of the vehicle and it hit a bridge. He managed to alight from the vehicle and the two suspects drove off. The victim reported the matter to the police.

They traced the suspects and managed to arrest Ramphisa in hospital. The other suspect has since fled and was never arrested.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, said police opened a case of robbery with aggravating circumstances and the docket was handled by the Polokwane Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit, assigned to Warrant Officer Lucky Mathibe for further investigations.

Through the investigating officer’s meticulous investigations, the accused Ramphisa was sentenced on 7 November for robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has applauded the investigating officer and all the participants in the matter for their tireless efforts that resulted in the successful prosecution of the suspect.
