Magale Secondary School gutted by fire
MASERUMULE PARK – The Limpopo Department of Education visited Magale Secondary School in Maserumule Park Village within the Sekhukhune South Education District on Monday following an incident of fire which led to the destruction of some educational essentials, a kitchen unit and the entire administration block on 9 August.
The motive behind the fire is unknown at this stage but Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, said investigations are ongoing on the matter.
Limpopo MEC for Education, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, has activated a 48-hour action plan following the incident.
Mosebjane Kgaffe, LDoE acting spokesperson, said the activation of the 48-hour action plan will make certain that learning and teaching continues.
Kgaffe added that the department will deliver four mobile classrooms and school furniture, procure learner, teaching support material, food for the learners and pointed out that printing will be outsourced from neighbouring schools as Grade 12 learners are busy with trial exams.
MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya condemned the unwarranted acts of digression with the contempt it deserves and subsequently called for the matter to be treated as an emergency focus for the department.
“I call upon team education and all responsible stakeholders to be hard at work in making sure that all the damaged essentials are delivered to the school within two days. I would like to send gratitude to the support and leadership of the school governing body, Sekhukhune District Municipality and Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality for declaring support for the school. To SAPS, let’s bring the perpetrators to book as they ruin the future of our learners,” said Lerule-Ramakhanya.
The MEC further commended community leaders and the traditional authority of Maserumule Park for their resilience and unwavering support towards working with the department in making sure that the future of the learners is secured.
“I want to take this opportune moment in this unfortunate turbulent time to convey my gratitude of appreciation to all of you in the community who have shown support since the occurrence of this unfortunate event of circumstances,” said Lerule-Ramakhanya.
Kgaffe indicated that the department will be dispatching all the necessary tools to the school through responsible departmental units as part of recovery plans to make sure that the culture of teaching and learning returns to normality at Magale Secondary School.
