Two more clinics activated for 24-hour service
MOUTSE/TOOITSKRAAL – Limpopo Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba inaugurated two more new 24-hour clinics in Moutse and Tooitskraal within the Elias Motsoaledi and Ephraim Mogale local municipalities respectively on Sunday, 12 November.
According to the department, the 24-hour activation initiative aims to provide accessible healthcare services 24/7, eliminating the need for communities to travel long distances for medical care.
MEC Ramathuba emphasized the importance of the support and protection of healthcare workers by urging traditional leaders and community stakeholders to prevent criminal incidents that could jeopardize the safety of the essential workers.
The Mohlaletse and Vlakplaas clinics in Fetakgomo-Tubatse and Ephraim Mogale local municipalities respectively saw their 24-hour service activation on Saturday, 4 and Sunday, 5 November respectively.
In her commitment to enhancing healthcare access, Ramathuba pledged during the 2023/2024 budget speech to make a significant number of clinics in province available 24/7. This drive further intends to meet the growing demand for round-the-clock medical services, particularly in rural areas where patients often face long journeys to access care.
“This marks a significant milestone in our healthcare system, ensuring greater accessibility to medical assistance, relieving pressure on emergency rooms, ensuring continuous care, and providing peace of mind to patients and their families who will now have uninterrupted access to healthcare,” stated Ramathuba.
She reiterated that it is essential for communities to protect those vital resources and stressed on concerns about staff members being attacked by criminals while on duty.
