SDM embarks on strategic planning session

LOSKOP – Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) recently convened a 3-day Institutional Strategic Planning Session at Loskop Dam outside Groblersdal.  

According to the municipality, the session aimed to realign the district’s priorities and strengthen institutional performance, bringing together leadership, management, and key stakeholders to refine the district’s strategic direction.

During the session, SDM Executive Mayor, Cllr Minah Bahula, highlighted the district’s progressive systems and accountability across departments.

She emphasized community-centered governance, stating: “This session must be led by a spirit of collaboration and innovation, merging administration and political components for the benefit of our communities.”

Executive Mayor Bahula welcomed President Cyril Ramaphosa’s instruction to address water shortages, noting the district’s role as a water authority and service provider.

She called for self-reflection and improvement, urging participants to “wake up from our laurels” and contribute to changing the water shortages narrative.

The Executive Mayor announced the activation of a rapid response team to address water shortages, acknowledging borehole interventions as temporary solutions.

“We have activated our rapid response team to make urgent interventions on water shortages. Although Borehole interventions are assisting in the interim, but they cannot serve as permanent solutions as some become dry during winter. Hence we have now mobilised all our energies to revive our bulk water projects in the district,” she said.

SDM Municipal Manager, Meshack Kgwale, presented the 2020/2025 performance overview, praising the Executive Mayor’s leadership, the capability of section administration managers, and the dedication of the Chief Financial Officer.

He affirmed that the district’s high calibre officials position it for continued development and enhanced service delivery.
