Residents concerned about unfinished road project

The Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) has left several road construction projects unfinished across Limpopo province due to budget cuts, contractor issues, and alleged financial misconduct.
These delays have resulted in dangerous road conditions, accidents, and significant frustration among local communities.

The D4150 (Praktiseer to Taung road) is the latest road abandoned by the Limpopo government. The road remains unfinished, it includes an incomplete Tswetlane access bridge. According to the residents of Ga-Motodi, the contractor has allegedly left site and is nowhere to be found. This publication visited the site and there was no project continuation.

The D4150 project is a major concern, described as a “deathtrap” due to its poor, half-built condition, it is in a dangerous state. Construction has been paused for months, with the project recorded at less than 50% completion.

The D4150 is one of the key routes in the Fetakgomo Tubatse as it links Ga-Motodi to Taung, Stasie, Thushanang, Makotaseng and other local villages. Limpopo MEC for sports, arts and culture Jerry Maseko is one of the locals affected by the unfinished road. He is from Ga Motodi and utilises the D4150 to get to his home.

In recent months, RAL has acknowledged that “bermuda roads” (incomplete roads) exist and plans to have them completed when budget becomes available, indicating a systemic issue.

With locals fed up about the D4150 road conditions, this publication forwarded queries to RAL’s communications officer Luyanda Sithole on December 10, she was yet to respond to this publication at the time of going to press.
