DA calls for probe into FTLM Acting MM’s alleged irregular appointment

BURGERSFORT – The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Fetakgomo-Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM), seeks the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA), Masikopo Makamu, to intervene in the alleged irregular and unlawful appointment of Acting Municipal Manager, Mavis Magowa.
According to the party, Magowa has been acting in the position since October 2024 without the required concurrence from MEC Makamu, rendering her actions, including her acting allowances, unlawful and irregular.
The DA claims that Magowa’s appointment followed the unlawful suspension and dismissal of Municipal Manager Joel Makgatha, a process marred by litigation and five judgements against the municipality.
Isaac Makofane, DA Councillor in FTLM, said the party is concerned about Magowa’s alleged failure to follow procurement processes, signing debt security without council resolution, and her inability to advise council as per the Municipal Finance Management Act.
“We are calling for the municipality to be placed under administration to prevent further irregularities and unlawful actions that undermine service delivery,” he said.
At the time of going to press, the FTLM could not respond to the publication’s enquiries.
