JANE FURSE – On Thursday 27 November 2025, the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality has successfully hosted the Fetakgomo Tubatse Special Economic Zone (FTSEZ) Stakeholder Engagement Roadshow at the Peter Nchabeleng Community Hall in Schoonoord, bringing together representatives from the Fetakgomo-Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM), government partners, and local residents.
The event aimed to drive broad-based economic transformation and industrial development in the interest of historically disadvantaged communities across the wider region.
The FTSEZ is based in the FTLM, however, its strategic intent is not limited to serving only the people of Fetakgomo Tubatse. The initiative is designed as a catalyst for inclusive growth, job creation, and equitable participation in the economy in Sekhukhune.
During the session, Cllr Howard Piitjo, Portfolio Chairperson on Economic Development and Planning, opened the programme and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to bring development-focused discussions directly to the people of Makhuduthamaga.
Piitjo noted that such platforms “help strengthen community confidence and ensure that no one is left behind.”
The engagement was also set to empower the youth, support SMMEs, and encourage residents who are interested in business to explore future investment opportunities linked to the SEZ.
Cllr Piitjo emphasized that accessible information is a key step in preparing communities to take advantage of emerging economic prospects.
The FTSEZ team shared how the zone is expected to positively impact local communities through increased employment opportunities, improved infrastructure, better access to resources, and the long-term strengthening of economic stability within the district.
These benefits were presented as part of a wider vision to stimulate growth, attract investors and unlock new economic pathways that will uplift households for years to come.
The youth seemed particularly interested in the programme, showing strong enthusiasm for the opportunities the FTSEZ offers and the potential for growth and development within the district. Their engagement reflected a genuine eagerness to be part of initiatives that could shape their future.
The FTSEZ Stakeholder Engagement Roadshow has reinforced optimism for a brighter and more prosperous future for the Sekhukhune Region, with the community ready to embrace the opportunities ahead.
