FTLM’s mayor meets Eskom Limpopo’s senior management
BURGERSFORT/APEL
The Mayor of Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality, Cllr Eddie Maila, has met with Eskom Limpopo Senior Management under the leadership of Mme Sebola to deliberate on electrification challenges within the municipality. The meeting was held on September 23 at the FTLM offices.
The meeting identified several factors hampering the rollout of mass electrification to households. In his presentation, Maila provided a detailed background on the obstacles faced by the municipality in accelerating electrification.
The Municipality has had to place several projects on hold pending the strengthening and capacitation of feeder lines to increase capacity on the national grid. This precautionary measure was taken to prevent damage to infrastructure, theft of cables and transformers, and illegal connections on completed projects.
Mme Sebola presented Eskom’s challenges as well as progress on the Kimali and Rietvlei feeder lines, which are expected to connect many households once completed.
As part of the meeting resolutions, the two parties agreed that Maila will engage the Premier of Limpopo Province and the MEC for CoGHSTA to fast-track interventions on challenges faced by Eskom.
The municipality will continue implementing electrification projects in areas where there is available capacity, while awaiting the completion of the Kimali and Rietvlei feeder lines.
The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Office of MEC of Coghsta to give support and guidance to the municipality in a quest to electrify households.
Eskom said it will provide the mayor with regular updates on identified challenges for further intervention.
Maila reiterated his call to residents to desist from illegal connections on completed projects, stressing that such practices pose risks to households and contribute to ongoing load reduction that negatively affects community livelihoods.
