Pregnant woman brutally killed by lover, SANCO calls for justice
LEEUWFONTEIN
The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) has condemned in the strongest possible terms the brutal killing of a 23-year-old woman, Botshelo Moimane, in Leeuwfontein outside Marble Hall, allegedly by a 31-year-old male suspect who is the victim’s lover.
According to the police, the victim was stabbed multiple times by her alleged boyfriend, who fled the scene after the incident.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said the police received intelligence information about the suspect’s hiding place and apprehended him in Elandskraal.
“Investigations revealed that the victim was four months pregnant at the time of the incident. The suspect was previously arrested for assaulting the victim and was released in July 2025 after the victim submitted a withdrawal request statement. The suspect is expected to appear in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court to face charges related to the murder,” he said.
SANCO’s Regional Spokesperson, Mantladi Malata, has called upon the community to stand united in condemning this horrific act.
“We must send a clear message, our communities will not tolerate violence against women. This fight is not only for the families directly affected, but for every woman and girl who deserves to live in safety and dignity,” Malata said.
Malata further emphasized that SANCO will mobilize its members and all concerned citizens to come out in their numbers to the courthouse and peacefully show support for justice to be served.
“Let us stand together, not only in grief but in resistance to injustice and solidarity for change,” Malata added.
He said while counselling and support services are being coordinated for those affected, SANCO is extending its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim during this heart-breaking time.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has strongly condemned the ongoing violence against women and children in the province.
“We will not tolerate any form of violence against women and children. We will work tirelessly to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book and that justice is served,” Hadebe said.
