EFF and MLM bids farewell to beloved councillor

SEKHUKHUNE

EFF members, Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality council representatives, family and friends joined mourners at the funeral service of Cllr Berlinah Maakgaswane Tshehla on August 2. Tshehla was a member of the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality council and was buried at Tšatane Village, Ward 22 . She passed away at the age of 43.

Cllr. Tshehla was deployed by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party as a proportional representative (PR) councillor following the 2021 local government elections, until her untimely passing on Tuesday, 29 July 2025, while at the hospital after a short illness.
As a public representative, she represented her constituents in the council and was assigned to the Corporate Services Portfolio.

A number of community leaders attended the burial to pay their last respect, including EXCO members Cllr. Gift Machaba (leader of opposition in Council and Deputy Head of Economic Development and Planning), Cllr. Pontsho Moretsele (Deputy Head of Corporate Services), Cllr. Elizabeth Mahlase (Deputy Head of Budget and Treasury), Ward Cllr. Olga Ngwato, and others councillors.

Councillor Tshehla was remembered by mourners as a soft-spoken, down-to-earth, humble, and fearless community leader who was highly involved in issues affecting her constituency.

Makhuduthamaga’s Peter Rankoe said the municipality will always cherish her contributions to the development of a catalytic local government institution and a community-driven governance system.
