MMC Mafefe set to champion women’s rights
GROBERSDAL – The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) has appointed Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) responsible for Cooperate Services, Orginia Mafefe, as the association’s Provincial Women Commissioner for Limpopo.
MMC Mafefe’s new role will focus on the promotion of gender equality and empowerment of women in local government and beyond.
The appointment aligns with SALGA’s mission to promote women’s participation and leadership in all spheres of government.
“I am humbled by this opportunity and will work tirelessly to advance the cause of women’s rights in society and leadership as well as to promote women’s economic empowerment. Together with my leadership collective, we will ensure to protect women’s rights and address a variety of issues including Gender-Based Violence and Femicide,” appreciated Mafafe.
She is expected to assume her new responsibilities until the end of the current political administration. SDM Executive Mayor, Minah Bahula expressed her joy over the appointment of Mafefe, highlighting that the well-deserved recognition is a testament to her leadership qualities, dedication and commitment to champion women’s rights.
Bahula further said the appointment confirms Mafefe’s ability to influence real change and advocate for the interests of women, not only in Sekhukhune but across the province.
“Mafefe’s appointment is not only a personal achievement but a step forward for the women of Limpopo. I have no doubt that her leadership will inspire many and she will work tirelessly to ensure that women’s voices are heard and their aspirations are met,” concluded Bahula.
