RAL’s new board members undergo induction
LIMPOPO – Limpopo MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Ernest Rachoene, emphasised that the masses in the province demand a future with dignity, mobility and opportunity, are not merely asking for roads.
Rachoene was speaking during his opening address at the induction of the newly appointed board members for the Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL).
The MEC stressed that RAL must not be a passive institution but a strategic instrument of economic transformation, spatial justice and rural development.
“It must reflect the values and aspirations of a developmental state that puts people first and leaves no one behind,” Racheone said.
Emmanuel Mongwe, Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure spokesperson, said the new RAL board came into effect in April for the new term of office.
The new members underwent a two-day induction session, where they shared information on technical operations and impact of policies on the RAL mandate.
The board members were officially announced by Rachoene on 2 April. Rachoene stated that the appointment of new RAL board marks a decisive step in ensuring that the vision for improved infrastructure development and road management is realised.
The names of the nominees were gazetted on 21 February for 14 days, calling on members of the public to comment on the suitability of nominees for appointment.
The shortlisted nominees were invited for an interview which took place on 18 March. Four nominees were recommended for appointment and a concurrence was sought from EXCO on 26 March to appoint them.
Three representatives were appointed from the LDPWRI, provincial Treasury and Transport and Community Safety.
After obtaining the concurrence from EXCO, appointment letters were issued to the new Board of Directors, and they have since accepted their appointments and took office from 1 April.
Moses Tseli was appointed Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Simphiwe Mamvura, Casper Mnisi and Mercy Ramabulana have been appointed as Non-Executive Directors.
Ennie Tema from Limpopo Provincial Treasury, Annique Moloisi from LDPWRI and Mantji Nhlane-Mthimnkhulu from LDPWRI were appointed ex officio Non-Executive Directors while Makhitha Chesane, the current Acting CEO, has been appointed as the ex officio director.
