FF Plus drives solution for Burgersfort’s sewerage crisis – private sector ready to help
BURGERSFORT
The private sector is reportedly willing to help solve Burgersfort sewage crisis in the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) but must now only get permission from the Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM).
This is according to the Freedom Front+ in Burgersfort. In the past months, many leaking pipes and sewers had been spotted in the Burgersfort area and CBD.
According to the party’s Cllr at the FTLM, Charmaine Oosthuizen, they have engaged the SDM’s municipal manager Meshach Mahlagaume Isaac Kgwale, requesting that the private sector and surrounding property owners of Tubatse Mews and Burgersfort Lodge assist in resolving the ongoing sewerage problems in the area.
The party has also received confirmation that Lepelle Northern Water is ready to provide assistance once the necessary authorization has been obtained.
“For more than four years, the sewer system in this area has not been connected to the main sewer line. This has led to raw sewer spilling into the area. This situation creates an unacceptable health risk for residents and visitors and undermines the development and tourism potential of Burgersfort,” said Oosthuizen.
She added, “What makes this case special is the fact that various role players in the private sector are willing to get involved and help with solutions. The FF Plus has not only identified the problem, but brings solutions to the table. What is needed now is the political will and administrative permission to continue with the repairs.”
She said the FF Plus engagement is motivated by a principled pursuit of healthy, functional communities where basic services are not a luxury but a right.
“The party will carefully monitor the process and exert pressure for a speedy and efficient solution.”
At the time of going to print, the SDM was yet to give an update on the matter, this publication will provide an update when the municipality responds.
