EFF marches for improved services at Jane Furse Hospital
JANE FURSE
The Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) in Makhuduthamaga Sub-Region, have on Friday 28 March 2025, embarked on a peaceful picketing to Jane Furse Hospital to hand-over a memorandum of demands for better services.
Among their concerns, the party was complaining about the hospital’s inadequate healthcare services and a serious shortage of doctors within the health institution.
Protest leader, Gift Machaba, said they were demonstrating to the hospital because people of Sekhukhune Region deserve better healthcare services.
“We protest because we will not tolerate our people suffering because of governmental neglect,” he said.
Machaba added that the party is also demanding immediate repairs of the hospital’s dilapidating building structures to ensure that the health facility is safe and fit for the purpose.
“The hospital buildings are falling apart. The operating theatres are overcrowded and congested, making it impossible to maintain sterile conditions. This is a life and death matter and we demand that proper conditions be created immediately. The hospital should be a sanctuary for the sick, not a place where they face further danger due to poor infrastructure,” he said.
Machaba indicated that the party demand that all clinics in Makhuduthamaga Sub-Region, particularly Schoonoord Clinic, operate 24 hours per day and seven days per week.
“The Department of Health in Limpopo Province’s decision to cut off the telephone line at Schoonoord Clinic is an unforgivable act of neglect. We demand that the telephone line be restored immediately so that this clinic provide continuous healthcare services,” stressed Machaba.
He furthered said the party is appalled with a serious shortage of water in the hospital which he said it must be resolved immediately.
“The lack of water in the hospital, including in the maternity section, is unacceptable at all. We demand that the hospital ensures that there is continuous and reliable supply of water to all departments. Lack of water compromises hygiene, patient care and affects the dignity of patients. We will not allow our mothers and sisters to give birth in unhygienic, unhealthy and unsafe conditions. Lack of water must be resolved without any delay,” he said.
Machaba said the EFF also demand the clinic to insource services such as security, cleaning and gardening staff members.
