Maloba marks his birthday celebration with blanket donation to the elderly
ELANDSDOORN
In what could be described as a selfless celebration, former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Chairperson in Sekhukhune Region, Cllr Ali Maloba, celebrated his birthday by donating blankets to the elderly citizens on Monday 10 March 2025.
Maloba, who is currently councillor in Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM), made the generous donation at the Pholoso Drop-In-Centre in Elandsdoorn, Dennilton.
Maloba said the birthday celebration donation was a symbol of hope and compassion to show that EFF cares about senior citizens.
“We would like to ensure that they are kept warm this coming winter as they wrap themselves in these blankets. Donating blankets is contributing to not only keeping some of the most vulnerable in our community warm, but also a little safer from the perils associated with winter such as colds, flu and even falling which can have devastating effects on the elderly. EFF is a catalyst for social change and we will forever protect our vulnerable, notably, senior citizens,” he said.
Maloba furthered informed that the aim of the blanket donations was to ensure that the elderly stay warm and healthy during the upcoming harsh winter conditions.
“We recognise the vulnerability of seniors during the harsh winter months. They are often more susceptible to the cold due to age related factors and providing them with blankets is a practical way to support their well-being,” he said.
Maloba highlighted the importance of improving the community’s quality of life, saying they promote care and foster a sense of solidarity.
The elders were delighted to receive their blankets, with some singing songs of praise to Councillor Maloba as they walked to the front to take pictures with their new possessions.
One of the beneficiaries, Ms Dinah Mthimunye, said: “I sing because I am full of gratitude and joy. I am thankful to Councillor Ali Maloba, may our almighty continue to protect him.”
Maloba added that he was happy that the benefiting elderly citizens received the blankets with heart-warming and gratifying reactions.
“Their smiles and words of thanks remind us of the significant impact a simple act of kindness can have. By addressing the immediate needs and fostering a spirit of giving, we believe we can contribute to a more inclusive and resilient society. We would like to thank the positive role played by our fundraising team led by Fighter Selinah Maunatlala as they have promised that such events will be celebrated every year,” concluded Maloba.
