Maila handover 12 bursaries to hardworking needy pupils.

In a heart-warming ceremony, the Mayor of Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM), Cllr. Eddie Maila, encouraged the young matriculants to pursue their studies and return to the municipality with fresh, inventive ideas to help address its challenges.
Maila was speaking during the awarding of bursaries by the FTLM, on Sunday, March 2, at the municipal chamber. 12 needy top achieving pupils were granted bursaries by the municipality.
The bursaries include tuition fees, study material, accommodation and a monthly stipend.
This is an intervention by the Office of the Mayor to assist deserving learners from poor backgrounds. In his address, Maila congratulated the learners who met the criteria to be awarded the bursaries. He appealed to the learners to embrace the intervention made by the municipality and encouraged them to focus on their studies and become good ambassadors for the institution.
He said his wish is to see some of the bursary recipients being part of the municipal administration after the completion of their studies.
“The municipality will be disappointed to see learners not focusing on their studies. The objective of the municipality is to become a city and with the calibre of courses the learners have chosen, the dream will become a reality.”
He confirmed the Office of the Mayor will, on a quarterly basis, engage with the leaners to check their progress and challenges faced while studying.
“We need creative solutions to our service delivery challenges require innovative ideas, and it is through the minds of young, educated individuals that we will achieve this,” Maila said
He expressed immense pride in the top achievers, acknowledging their success as a significant milestone for the municipality. Maila wished all the learners the best in their studies and hoped to see them graduating in their various fields of study.
“Your accomplishments have put our municipality on the map. We are confident that wherever life takes you, you will be excellent ambassadors for our municipality and for education. Always remember to reflect on where you’ve come from, where you are, and where you are going,” he added.
Ofentse Mogale, one of the beneficiaries , who was handed a bursary to study mechanical engineering at Rostec College, expressed his gratitude for the honour of meeting the mayor and receiving the bursary. He urged matriculants to stay focused and study diligently in their final year.
The awards ceremony reflects the Mayor’s commitment to responding to the government’s call to make education both fashionable and accessible to all sectors of society.
In closing the ceremony, the pupils were all handed the municipal jackets to be worn every time they visited the municipal buildings.
