Suspected arrested for rape of Chuene Clinic nurses appears in court
GA-MAJA– The 28 year-old suspect, Moloto Johannes Sathekge from Ga-Maja Phiri Village, arrested for the rape of nurses at Chuene Clinic, appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on January 30.
Sathekge is facing serious multiple charges including murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, two counts of kidnapping, four counts of rape, three counts of housebreaking with intent to commit an offence and 10 counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances.
The charges stem from allegation that between December 2024 and January 2025, the accused entered homes of women in Ga-Chuene and Ga-Maja villages where he demanded valuable items like cellphones, laptops and money. It is further alleged that he threatened the victims with a panga and sexually assaulted their minor children.
In a separate incident, he is accused of entering Chuene Clinic, threatened security personnel with a firearm, and handcuffed them.
The accused subsequently kidnapped two nurses, taking them to nearby bushes where he raped them and robbed them of their cellphones.
Following the ordeal, the victims managed to return to the clinic. A thorough investigation by law enforcement linked the accused to the offences and at the time of his arrest, he was already in police custody for an unrelated matter.
Mashudu Malabi-Dzangi, NPA Regional spokesperson in Limpopo division, said Sathekge’s case has been postponed to 9 April for further investigations and he remains in custody.
