Mayor Maila’s blue-light motorcade intercepted
BURGERSFORT – Fetakgomo-Tubatse Mayor, Eddie Maila, has praised the excellent work done by traffic law enforcement agencies on the country’s roads.
Mayor Maila’s prises of the authorities follow an occasion in which a vehicle which was part of his motorcade was intercepted during a roadblock operation in Hammanskraal, Gauteng province on Sunday, 12 January to verify if the drivers of the blue-lights vehicle were licensed to do so.
The vehicle was escorted to Tshwane Traffic Metro Police station in Hamanskraal where it was verified that the firearms in the blue-lights vehicle were licensed as well as whether the vehicle was driven by authorised personnel.
Maila appreciated the good work by the law enforcement agencies, both traffic officers and the South African Police Service.
In an interview with South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), Maila said, “Of course at the first place, I was surprised because it is happening for the first time that we are stopped with the blue lights. But upon engagement with the SAPS, they told us that there are people using blue lights to commit criminal activities, so, there was information which they were looking for and I requested that we must drive to the nearest, either police station or traffic department, so that we are able to provide that information. We have provided all the necessary information which they have requested, and all of us are happy, they are happy, I am happy with them. Yes I was surprised. But I think we must applaud the good work which is done by our law enforcement agencies. We understand that there is no one who is above the law. We will always comply; we will always cooperate with them. We want to take this opportunity to call upon all public servants to respond positively whenever they are stopped by law enforcement agencies because they are there to protect our lives.
The officers requested appointment letters from Maila’s VIP protectors to indicate that they were indeed appointed by the municipality to protect the mayor and other documents that proved that the entourage was from the municipality.
