Limpopo Exco pays homage to Bapedi Kingship
MOHLALETSE- Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba led the Limpopo Executive Council (Exco) to pay homage to Acting Queen of Bapedi Kingship, Queen Manyaku Maria Thulare, on Tuesday, 17 December in Mohlaletse Village.
The Exco endorsed the decision to appoint Queen Manyaku Thulare as the Acting Queen of the Bapedi Kingship during its special gathering on 12 December.
Following the endorsement, Premier Dr. Ramathuba possesses the authority to sign the certificate appointing the Acting Queen to her role.
The Exco’s visit provided Ramathuba with an opportunity to present the certificate formally to the Acting Queen.
The decision to appoint the Queen Mother as the Acting Queen resulted from a court order issued by the Limpopo division of the High Court on 03 December.
Ramathuba stated, ‘The courtesy visit reaffirms the partnership between traditional leadership and the government. Together, we can address the challenges facing our communities, such as unemployment, poverty and social inequality. The Bapedi Kingship, under the guidance of Acting Queen Manyaku Maria Thulare, is poised to play an important role in uniting its people and driving development within the area and beyond.”
The premier indicated that as government, they are duty-bound to respect the judgement by the division of the High Court in Limpopo and uphold the rule of law, recognising the ongoing legal process.
“While we would have preferred to come together in celebration of a united Bapedi Nation, with the Kingship finalised and embraced by all, we acknowledge the complexities of the current situation. It is with a sense of responsibility that we honour the court’s decision, even as we hope for a time when the Royal Councils can reach a consensus on the rightful leadership of this great nation,” expressed Ramathuba.
