Limpopo SAPS arrest 714 suspects during Operation Shanela

The Limpopo police are steadfast in their commitment to combat crime during the festive season, through Operation Shanela.
During the weekly operation conducted from November 18 to 24 , a total of 714 suspects, including 216 illegal immigrants, were arrested, and three illegal firearms were recovered.
The offences included murder, robbery, the carjacking, burglary, assault, rape, possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of counterfeit goods and contravention of the Immigration Act.
“These operations were carried out in collaboration with various law enforcement agencies and key stakeholders, including community policing forums and private security. They focused on enhancing police visibility in crime-prone areas, tracking down wanted suspects and conducting stop-and-search operations,” said the Limpopo SAPS’s spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
Additionally, police confiscated various types of drugs, dagga, liquor, stolen motor vehicles and a substantial amount of cash.
The Limpopo SAPS commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the efforts and successes of these operations, highlighting the significant progress made in ensuring the safety and security of communities.
All the arrested suspects are expected to appear in various courts in Limpopo soon.
