MLM achieves 96% in First Quarter Performance

The Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) EXCO Lekgotla Performance Review Meeting, sitting at the Municipal Chamber in Jane Furse on Tuesday 22 October, revealed that it has achieved 96% in its first quarter performance.
This was highlighted in the municipality’s first quarter reports for the financial year 2024/2025, which disclosed the institution’s remarkable performance yet again.
According to the municipality, MLM Mayor, Cllr. Merah Mahlase, convenes the EXCO Lekgotla Meeting quarterly to comply with the Municipal Systems Act and for management to update the municipality’s leadership on performance against the quarterly targets.
Thomas Mashabela, MLM Spokesperson, said the local municipality had 85 targets in the first quarter of the 2024/2025 financial year and achieved 82 targets across all Key Performance Areas (KPAs), accounting for 96% of the total planned targets.
Mashabela said in five municipal KPAs, 100% performance was achieved, with 90% attained in the Basis Service Delivery (BSD) KPA.
“Furthermore, the Lekgotla hailed the Economic Development and Planning (EDP) department for its continuous 100% performance. The management led by the Municipal Manager, Mr Ronald Moganedi, also revealed that the municipality successfully implemented 100% of its overall budget the previous year by distributing noteworthy projects and programmes to various communities,” stated Mashabela.
He informed that the MLM has appointed Mr Kole Mothapo as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to strengthen and capacitate the senior management team and organizational internal control. Mothapo, previously worked as Manager for Expenditure at the municipality and was announced before Lekgotla as new CFO effective from 1 October 2024.
Mashabela indicated that as of 30 September 2024, the municipality’s total revenue was R188.1 million, while its total expenditure was R123.8 million, which represents 95% and 88% of the budget to date, respectively, with own revenue collection rate of 100% as of 30 September 2024.
He stated that some of key highlight of the Lekgotla included; issuing of 100 operating licenses for 6+1 mini taxis which were approval and 35 already collected, traffic officers training and allocation of firearms, revival of transport forum, hosting of the first Makhuduthamaga Mayor’s Marathon, cascaded of performance agreements to all employees in the institution, launching of MLM’s Dikgerekgere Tuesdays in Phokwane, activation of LPWRI’s Dikgerekgere Wednesdays in Manganeng, hosting of Tournament Against Drugs in collaboration with SAPS, hosting of Agri EXPOs in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, successful HIV/AIDS programmes at various schools and Mayor’s Tertiary Application Roadshow which attracted 460 learners who were assisted during the programme.
“In addition, the report highlights strategic challenges and interventions required such as the state of D-roads within the municipal boundaries, for which the municipality will engage with provincial department of public works and roads, to explore possibility of devolving some roads to the municipality for rehabilitation through the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG),” said Mashabela.
Mayor Mahlase has credited the PMT’s political support and leadership, as well as her executive and management teams, for constantly steering the ship in the optimal direction.
