Mayor Mahlase launches Dikgerekgere Tuesday
PHOKWANE – Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) Mayor, Merah Mahlase, introduced the Dikgerekgere Tuesday service delivery programme for the municipality in the Phokwane cluster on 17 September.
Thomas Mashabela, MLM spokesperson, said the initiative was launched in an effort to minimise service delivery backlogs while also improving mobility on the municipal roads.
Ahead of the launch of the programme that morning, the municipality’s leadership met with the Phokwane Traditional Authority at the tribal hall to present its plan of action with regard to the initiative.
Mashabela stated that the launch started with the re-gravelling of internal roads in the village through the utilization of municipal machinery and maintenance teams.
“The initiative takes inspiration after Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure’s launch of Dikgerekgere Wednesday for the district last month in Makhuduthamaga. The programme is aligned with the municipality’s key performance area of basic service delivery and infrastructure development plans,” indicated Mashabela.
He further said that the municipality intends to utilize internal machinery and maintenance teams to improve the state of gravel roads and public spaces such as sports fields in response to the high volume of demand from its various villages and wards.
“The municipality plans to complete the re-gravelling of Phokwane Village’s internal roads on Friday, 20 September. Mabintane Village will also be serviced once the maintenance work in Phokwane Village is complete,” shared Mashabela.
Mayor Merah Mahlase encouraged community members to continue submitting their issues to the ward councilors and ward committees, appealing for patience as the programme gets extended to all the municipality’s clusters.
“Gone are those days when the community would only see the municipal yellow fleet on emergency calls. Our people require government assistance. The municipality will reach out to every ward with damaged roads through Dikgerekgere Tuesday programme,” concluded Mahlase.
