Unlawful water connections affect residents of Mogaladi Village
MOGALADI – Illegal connections of water are causing severe disruptions to the normal flow of supply, impacting the broader communities’ access to the essential resource in Sekhukhune district.
Recently, residents of Mogaladi Village within Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality raised concerns about the ongoing water shortages in the area of Ward 30.
Upon the latest investigations by the district municipality’s operation and maintenance team, it became evident that the some residents in new settlements there had illegally connected their households to the main water pipeline.
Lemson Moropjane, SDM spokesperson, indicated that the actions of the residents put strain on the existing water infrastructure.
“In response, the team, led by MMC Mabatane Mathale, has collaborated with Lepelle Northern Water to address the issue and have jointly agreed on the need to install a new pipeline from the reservoir to ensure a stable and reliable water supply for all residents,” informed Moropjane.
Executive Mayor Bahula has since strongly condemned the practice discovered at the village. Bahula stressed that such illegal activities are not only detrimental to the community but also hinder efforts of the municipality to provide consistent and equitable water services to residents.
She urged all members of the community to respect the law and refrain from engaging in activities that compromise essential infrastructure.
