Makhuduthamaga Performance review Lekgotla marks notable achievements
JANE FURSE – Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM)’s Performance Lekgotla review meeting heard that during the fourth quarter of the financial year 2023/2024, which ended on 30 June, the municipality had a total of 103 targets and managed to achieve 98 targets, which is 95 percent of the total planned targets as tabled on Service Delivery Basic Implementation Plan (SDBIP).
The performance Lekgotla was held recently in Jane Furse to assess and review the municipality’s progress against the set targets.
Thomas Mashabela, MLM spokesperson, indicated that the high-level political and administration interface is held quarterly to comply with the municipality’s performance policy and other related municipal acts.
Mashabela informed that the lekgotla applauded the management led by Municipal Manager, Ronald Moganedi , for working tirelessly with his team and for achieving the appointment of 80 internship candidates in Makhuduthamaga.
“The programme is facilitated by the municipality in collaboration with Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA) to expose graduates to various fields in the local government sphere,” explained Mashabela.
He expressed that some of the achievements the Lekgotla celebrated is the support to three local Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) who successfully participated in the 2024 Durban Tourism Indaba.
He further stated that the issuing of 100 operating permits to maxi taxis that were approved by the Department of Transport and Community Safety was also noted.
The procurement of a truck for Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP) and general workers, launch of the Makhuduthamaga Youth Fund, Completion of five road projects in the municipality and 100 percent spending on the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG), the Finance Management Grant (FMG) and the EPWP were additional milestones the municipality achieved within the period under review.
MLM Mayor, Merah Mahlase, and the Executive Committee (EXCO) collectively emphasized that the municipality has been achieving unqualified audit opinions for several years in succession and that it is time to comply with all municipal regulations and processes to achieve a clean audit administration.
